LESSON 1

The Notes of the Steel Pan

 

By the end of this lesson you will be able to:

  • Play Whole Tone Scales

  • Play Chromatic Scales

  • Know where all the notes on the steel pan are

  • Understand the Tone and Semitone system

LESSON 2

Major, Minor and Pentatonic Scales

​

By the end of this lesson you will be able to:

  • Play C, G, F, D and Bb Major

  • Play A, C and D Natural Minor

  • Play C, G, D and F Major Pentatonic

  • Play A, C and D Minor Pentatonic

  • Understand TTSTTTS and TSTTSTT and how they form patterns on the Steel Pan

LESSON 3

Playing Techniques

By the end of this lesson you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Basic Mallet Holding

  • Bouncy Reverb Playing

  • Rolling

  • Double Hit

  • 2 Notes

  • 3 Notes

  • Recognise the difference between Mallets and their purposes.
