WEEK 8 @ USYD MTEACH

WEEK 8 @ USYD MTEACH

This week was AMAZING!! By far the best week yet!

During tech we had Renee Noble and Rowena Stewart from the Girls Programming Network come and talk to us about programming, coding and music. To say the least we had so much fun! The lecture started off with them introducing the program, Microsoft Reactor and their backgrounds. After that we got into a few of the activities we are going to do today. The first was the Kookaberry. This is an educational tool developed in Australia (hint the name = Kookaburra...) for easy and cheap access to coding in the classroom. We managed to muck around with one at the end of the lesson and it takes you through a bunch of different tasks that makes you think and problem solve. Next was the clay xylophones - basically we made functioning xylophones out of play-dough. This involved wiring and programming in a program called the Kooka-suite. Below is a video from my friend Harrison who made this 👇

Finally, the Edison Bot. I was the only one to choose this and boy was it fun!! Basically this is a little robot that you program using barcodes and other programs you can find here Meet Edison - Another fun feature is that its like lego and you can add to it to make it unique.

Below are a few videos of me mucking around with it and showing the programming software.

This is it line tracking and being told to stop when at an obstacle and reverse then I program 3 blind mice for the robot to play.
