WEEK 4 @ USYD MTEACH
This week we finalised both of our projects for Tech and Extension and had a look at how these projects relate to Khun and Hein philosophy and what we have experienced within schools.
For tech we all had access to the videos and audio so we individually took our own take on the video edit and my take is below. Using Final Cut Pro used lots of 'blade' (cutting tool), over laying, audio syncing and editing the hue and saturation of the final videos. The reasoning for this was due to the clips coming from 3 different cameras they all were slightly different. One was grainy and had a very vintage look to it and the others were similar in clarity and tone. So to make the videos all similar I deiced to stick with the theme of vintage and adjust the other two clips. I also thought it would be comical to add the amount of takes we did at the start like a montage. This consisted and demonstrated the director using the clapping method to help with syncing the audio up.

For extension we added the script to our unreliable product ad and made some final edits. For us it was about getting the right section of the audio along with what part of our three ideas we wanted to focus on;
1 - 20th in the world
2 - the one working microwave
3 - James Funky socks
We ended up going with 20th in the world (which was not accurate) and found that it contrasted really well with the low quality playing we produced.

Overall both of these projects came out really well and I am really happy with them. We shared them with the rest of our class and all had a few laughs at the ads and videos. Relating this to Khun and Hein was a bit difficult as I could only access the first part of there book but from their philosophy of educating the other 80%, these projects are really good for that. This is not only due to the creative use of music but they can use sampling, looping and other creative paths that are not 'classical music' or needing to have 'formal training'. These projects allows students to experiments with all three learning experiences and through learning Ableton (again I do not like Ableton for recording, only live loops) and other DAWS they can relate music to the world around them while having fun doing it. It also gives a little insight into the industry and how many different roles out there needs to be aware of the basics of music and how it is used - especially in film.
